Serving as interim library trustee has been uniquely meaningful for me. A 48-year resident of Hartford, I’ve taught reading for over 32 years. Teacher, special educator, reading specialist, school administrator, my fulfillment is in witnessing youth in their discovery of great books. I was once privileged to witness a teen finish his first book and burst into tears of joy. Experience taught me that unlocking the gift of reading is as much about placing the right book into a student’s hands as it is about teaching and learning. The matchingmaking: books to readers, is the magic waiting within our library’s collections. I’m saddened today to visit local schools without libraries. This summer, I will promote the Farmers Market as a children’s market, further enhancing our attraction of all ages, helping to ensure that the West Hartford Community Center & Library nurtures all readers and learners.
